Rhythmic Robot - WaveCrest (KONTAKT) - Full Version

WaveCrest continues the series of vintage synthesizers - this time we present the beautiful grainy warm sound of the Ensoniq SQ80. Where the original keyboard has a 3-oscillator architecture, WaveCrest departs from tradition in favor of something a little more unusual: six loop oscillators plus a waveform attack. The six cyclic waves are driven by phase LFOs so that they fall into the overall patch, constantly changing timbre. By choosing which waves to play and how quickly they loop, you can get soft tones of slow-evolving sound or bright metallic sounding patches. In addition, you can also add one of 12 attack samples to the looped wave, making it easy to get the characteristic vibration of a flute, bowstring, or guitar. These attack samples can be independently adjusted for levels, so it is quite possible to create patches without them for impressive soundscapes. Each cyclic wave can be selected from a pool of 54 signals using the Wave Select slider. They can be musically soft, warm in the low frequencies or bright, harsh with higher harmonics. This makes it easy to create patches that either change slightly (select six waves from the limited area of the slider's movement) or include an abrupt change in tone (select alternately at the top and bottom of the slider scale). Then adjust how fast they will loop using the Sweep Rate knob, which ranges from 10 seconds to 1 second. Or, of course, you can click on the Glitch button that randomizes everything. The entire changing signal can then be further processed with a switchable 2- or 4-band low-pass filter, a dedicated high-pass filter, various LFOs, an overdrive circuit (for adding analog-style warmth), and a grain control that gradually reduces the depth and sample rate. ... Our usual effects are, of course, present, as well as Lexicon convolutional digital reverb for some authentic sparkle. WaveCrest stands out above all for its digital pads with lots of tonal movement: think of the sounds in early Peter Gabriel albums. Since the sound was designed from the beginning to be cyclical and evolving, it is great for drones and sustained sounds; although attack waves mean you can get some cool percussion sounds from it too. Whether you want to create something shimmery in sound or dramatic, WaveCrest is capable of doing it.
